Announcement: Two New Trustees Appointed to the Canoe Foundation

Just in time for our new funding window opening on 15 February, the Canoe Foundation is excited to announce the appointment of two new Trustees, who will strengthen our work currently focused on revitalising and improving access points on British waterways and coastlines. Adya Misra and Charlotte Ditchburn will join the five existing Trustees and are warmly welcomed by all.

David Belbin, Lead Trustee of the Canoe Foundation said These two new appointments broaden our board as part of a fresh direction for the charity. We need to be bold in our ambitions for the future of a paddlesport charity and in fundraising to improve access to British waterways, and we’re really looking forward to working with Adya and Charlotte.

We have a vision to improve people’s lives through access to paddlesports and I hope that the energy, knowledge and creativity that our new appointees bring will help us to meet those goals, adding new voices to our work.”

About the two new Trustees

Adya Misra is an experienced publishing professional and British Canoeing paddlesports coach. When she is not leading her global team in publishing she is out coaching people on rivers, canals and lakes. Adya is a keen sea-kayaker and paddleboarder but as a regular user of inland waterways she has developed a strong interest in access to water. Driven by passion for connecting people with their outside world, Adya founded People of Colour Paddle in 2022 with the aim of creating opportunities for systematically marginalised communities within paddlesport.

Adya says “I’m excited to join the team at Canoe Foundation and steer the development of places we love to paddle.”

Charlotte Ditchburn is a novice paddle boarder, works full time in the access sector and is impassioned to increase accessibility to the outdoors. As a British Canoeing Ambassador for 2021/22, she is passionate about getting more women onto the water. Charlotte is an expert in access and rights of way and uses her expertise to campaign for an accessible experience for all on and off the water.

Charlotte says “I would like to see fair, shared access for all on the water so that everyone can enjoy the benefits of our treasured blue spaces.”

We’re so excited to have Adya and Charlotte on board!
